What a Rebrand Actually Costs

Ask what a rebrand costs and you will get a design fee. It is the easiest number to give and the least useful, because the fee buys the decisions. What costs money is applying them.

The three budgets, not one

A rebrand has a design budget, an implementation budget and a replacement budget, and they are rarely the same size. Design decides. Implementation rebuilds the site, the templates, the decks, the signage. Replacement is everything physical that has to be reprinted or remade.

An organisation with one website and a logo on an invoice has a small third budget. One with packaging, vehicles and a retail footprint has a third budget larger than the first two together.

What quietly inflates it

  • No inventory. Nobody can say how many templates exist until someone counts them
  • A second language added late. Retrofitting is several times the cost of designing for it from the start
  • Approval by committee without a decider. Rounds are the most expensive line item in any creative budget

What reduces it

Two things, both unglamorous. Count what exists before asking for a quote: a real inventory of templates, documents and surfaces turns an estimate into a price. And phase the rollout by visibility — the homepage and the primary templates first, the long tail as things come up for renewal anyway.

A rebrand that has to land everywhere on one day is paying for the deadline, not the design.

If you are weighing one, the useful first step is not a brief. It is a list. We are happy to look at it with you — get in touch.

Let's make it better.

Better could mean the brand, the product, the website, or the way people experience all three. It depends on what the business needs next.
